Arthur Sherman

Arthur Dale Sherman, 87, passed away on November 28, 2021 at Billings Clinic. Born April 28, 1934 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings Montana to Arthur and Laura (Anderson) Sherman, Dale was raised with his many siblings on the family farm in Balentine. He attended school at Huntley Project High School in Huntley Project, where he met the love of his life, LaDonna Crosby—though they didn't start dating until many years later. He graduated from Huntley Project High School in the class of 1952, and following high school, enlisted in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956, during which time he served in the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged from the navy, he became reacquainted with LaDonna, and they married in July of 1958. Soon after marrying, Dale and LaDonna gave birth to three children in quick succession—Darrell, Dexter, and Liane. Dale began a lifelong career with the United States Postal Service soon after leaving the military, carrying mail for many years before continuing his career in Postal Service leadership. A lover of community, Dale found ways to keep himself engaged and give back to Billings throughout his life. He was an active participant in many community service organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, and the Exchange Club. Dale held the position of Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus from 1978 to 1980. He also enjoyed bowling with the Knights of Columbus Bowling League, and umpired Little League for a number of years. A man of great faith, Dale served on Central High School's school board, as well as the Parish Council for Saint Pius X Church. In his later years, he joined Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, where he served as an usher and money collector. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, as well as camping and boating with his family. He loved Lincoln town cars, a good martini, and dancing with his beloved wife, LaDonna. His spaghetti recipe will go down in family history as the best one ever. Dale is survived by his wife, LaDonna Sherman, his sons Darrell (Cheryl) Sherman and Dexter Sherman, and his daughter Liane (Brett) Bates; his grandchildren Kerry (Shaun Bare) Sherman, Sydne (Garrett) Visser, Ashlynn (David Kuhn) Andersen, Shelby Sherman, Jessica Andersen, and Tiffani Bates; and his great-grandchild, Tucker Visser; his siblings Tom Sherman, Marilyn (Dennis) Espeland, Laurella Duncan, Kathleen Stevens, Patrick (Susan) Sherman; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Laura and Arthur Sherman and his infant brother Michael Sherman. Vigil services will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel Monday, December 6 at 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church on Tuesday, December 7 at 10:00 am.
