Lance Rock Above

Lance Cooney Rock Above was born July 26, 1962 to the late Lee and Rose (Standsoverbull) Rock Above in Billings, MT. Lance went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday December 14, 2021 due to illness. His Indian name, "Sees The Light", was given to him by the late Amy Hill. Lance attended elementary school at Pryor Public School. During his high school years, he attended: Busby, St. Labre and graduated from Plenty Coups High School with the class of 1980. Lance had a passion for horses that started at a very young age. At the age of 4, he rode his first horse and throughout the years he enjoyed his time at the racetracks with his Dad and his brothers-in-law. He also enjoyed various cultural activities which included arrow throwing, dancing at powwows, and was actively involved in the Tobacco Society, in which he was adopted by the late George Bulltail. Lance was a proud member of the New Apostolic Church and became a Sub-Deacon. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Janice Little Light, Jennifer Rock Above, his brothers; Robert and Aaron Tolan Rock Above. He is survived by his two sons: Lansing Zachary and Elijah Rock Above. His five grandchildren: Lyrical, Trinity, Mason, Caitlin, and Kylee. Also, his great-grandchildren Sebastian, Gracen, and one on the way. His brothers: Ben (Josie) Stands, Harry (Maggie) Rock Above, and Delon (Melissa) Rock Above, Dr. Russell (Donna) Stands, Jonathon (Lana) Stands, Adrian (Beryle) Stands, Larry Little Owl Jr., Larny Little Owl, Solomon (Kacy) Little Owl, Russe ll (Benita) Plain Feather, Oliver Dwayne (Dora) Costa, Dominic Costa, Mike Stewart, James (Susie) Little Light, Franco (Erica) Little Light, Conan Little Light, and Benny Lee. His sisters: Norma Falls Down, Sandra Rock Above, Janet E. Stewart, Julie Hugs, Renee Yellow Tail, Rosanna Pine, Rebecca Falls Down, Renita Hill, Teatta Bear Below, Cerise, Billie, and Sara Plain Feather, Maureen Rock Above, Elizabeth (Tronnes) Birdinground, Ollie, Donya, and Christie Costa, Reva (Marlin) Not Afraid, Lavonna (Curtis) Real Bird, Seja Plain Bull, Lilly (Dave) Jefferson, Lottie (Curtis) Medicine Horse, Cecilia Gail Rock Above, Rosalie Hunts Arrow, and Charlotte (Frank) Cooper. His uncles Lawrence Stands and Heywood (Mary Lou) Big Day. Aunts: Joann Rock Above, Linda Mae Little Owl, Alice (Grady) Hunts Arrow, and Sharon Stands. His adopted Tobacco Society brothers; Boyd (Charlotte) Russell, Kennard (Diane) Real Bird and sisters; Lisa (Mike) Stevens, Martina Real Bird, and Belva Bell. His extended family includes: Stands Over Bull, Mullenburg, Boggess, Lion Shows, Rock Above, Davis, Howe, Holds the Enemy descendants, and Medicine Crow descendants. If we have forgotten anyone during this time of grief, please forgive us as we have a very large family.
