Mary Elizabeth Bird Hat (BAABAANXIAASEE) Peyote Medicine, 52, of Pryor passed away Friday, December 24th 2021, at home peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of Ties the Bundle Clan. She was born June 29th, 1969 to Edward & Irma Bird Hat. She is Non-Denominational with her religious beliefs she always attended church with her parents at the late Pat Stands Penocostal Church.
Mary is her father's daughter, she strived as an outgoing and fearless woman. She had the country lifestyle and grew up strong-willed to take on life's greatest adventures such as horse riding, hiking, fishing, hunting, swimming in open waters, and living life on the fast lane. As a young child she grew up dancing the powwow trails with her siblings.
Mary grew up in Pryor, MT where she went to Pryor Elementary and High School. She then continued her education in Albuquerque at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute for architecture. From there she met Alex Coca and had their first son Aled Bird Hat. After returning to Montana, she met the love of her life Steve Burkhart. The two fell in love and she had her second son Amos Bird Hat. Mary later worked at Little Seeds Daycare within the First Methodist Church. Amongst the growth, she continued her education at the Lincoln Center to pursue a C.N.A. license. She completed her schooling and worked at St. Johns for several years. Mary's caretaking flourished through her family since she was a young girl; From looking after her siblings and relatives to caring for her nephews, nieces, and grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Irma Bird Hat; Brothers: Dewayne and Cheinie Yellowtail, Jeremy White, Joe Pretty Paint Sisters: Roselynn Comesup and Cammy Bird Hat. Nephew: Stevan LittleLight, Clinton OldBull.
Survived by her sons Aled (Monica) Bird Hat and Amos Bird Hat. Adopted son: Zach Goesahead. Daughter: Cheryl (Latrell) Yellowtail-Bird. Sisters: Gail Bird Hat-White, Connie Bullshows, Lena Comesup, Belle Laverdure, Pam Bird Hat, Sunshine Goesahead, Valerie (Clifton) Fallsdown, Renee Stewart, Mary, Althea, Rachel, and Angie DeCrane. Brothers: Chester (Miranda) Not Afraid, Clyde Prettypaint, Artie Smells, Melvin Bird Hat, Laurence (Martha) DeCrane. Ruben (Christine) DeCrane, Ellsworth (Polly) DeCrane, Claude and Luwalen Daws, Phillip Beaumont. Nephews & Nieces: Devin (Joliz), Terrell, Brian Yellowtail, Chisaree, James, and Colt White, Cheska, Chester, Mathyus, and Mishayla Not Afraid. Grandchildren: Taylor Bird Hat, Hila Coca, Lakelyn and Latrell Jr. Bird, Gracen and Stevan Bird Hat, Josephine BlackHawk.

She was my first friend I made when I moved to Pryor. And even though we grew apart it was always good to see her. Sending my dear condolences to her family.
