Obituary

On Sunday, January 23, 2022, in Billings Montana, Donna Egan Holt passed away at 86. In her last hours, Donna was surrounded by family in her home.

Donna was born to Bernice and Earl Egan on November 16, 1935 in Glasgow, Mt. She was the oldest of three children. In 1954 she graduated from Great Falls High School. She worked as a bookkeeper in Great Falls, shortly after that, she was married to Melvin Holt on March 2, 1957. Donna and Melvin were blessed with three children. Donna enjoyed fishing, camping, and going on road trips across the United States with her family. Donna took pride in involving herself in the lives of her children and enjoyed nurturing their interest in academics, sports, scouts, and 4-H. In later years, Donna helped to shape the lives of her grandchildren the same way she did her children.

In addition, Donna filled her time with community service and hobbies. Donna participated in the PTA and served as Billings City PTA President. She was a member of St Pius church serving as a CCD teacher for years. Donna loved gardening, genealogy, and quilting as a member of the Yellowstone Valley Quilters Guild. Donna taught quilting classes and owned a quilt shop in the Hart-Albin building in downtown Billings. Some of her quilts traveled for display in museums and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

Donna had the ability to make people around her feel loved; always making others feel important and good about themselves. Let us all love the many memories we cherish of Sweet Donna. Let us be inspired by her love, support, faith, mischievous humor, brightness, determination, and storytelling.

She is survived by husband of 65 years Melvin Holt, son Randolph “Odess,” daughters Jeanine Holt-Seavy (Lyle) Seavy, and Denice, grandchildren Lyle, Grady, Egan, Micah, Shaun, Kristine, Rachael, five great grandchildren, half-brother Gary Crowder, and beloved pets Peppy and Ollie.

She is preceded in death by her father Earl Egan, mother Bernice Crowder, and stepfather Earl Crowder, her sister Earlene Firth, and brother Fred Egan.

A celebration of her life will be held this summer.
