Obituary
Heaven welcomed another angel on January 16, 2022. Patricia Lee (Kessler) Kapptie was born in Dubuque, Iowa on March 2, 1941. She moved to Billings, Montana as a little girl and called it home the rest of her life. Pat married Jim Kapptie on August 12, 1961, and they were blessed with 6 children: Karen (Joe) Sylvester, Melinda (Kenny) Kaiser, Mary (Don) Spiker, Jenny (Scott) Gates, Koleen (Matt) Lumpkin, and James Kapptie. Family was the most important part of life and Pat's revolved around her children and the joy of watching them grow. She enjoyed watching her kids participate in majorette performances, Girl Scouts, musicals, basketball, volleyball, softball, and baseball games. She taught her family to be strong, hard-working, independent, and soft-hearted. If you ever wanted to know her honest opinion all you had to do was ask. She was the hub of the family. At 39 years old Pat had her first open-heart surgery and prayed to God to just allow her to see her children grown. She was blessed to have surpassed that to welcome in 20 grandchildren: Brad, Mariah, Ashley, Sean, Travis, Ryan, Dante & Lucas Sylvester; Brennen, Jenna & Kristin Kaiser; Maggie, Mathew, & Sarah Spiker; Breanna & Tyler Gates; DiMaggio, Patton, Aspasia & Balin Kapptie and 9 great-grandchildren: Adriana, Mila, Mason, Carter, Braxson, Maylee, Bennett, Brynleigh and Drew. Pat's calling was caring for others, whether it was running errands, chauffeuring to appointments, patient advocating - she always found time to help. From cards to cookie trays, Pat will be remembered for her never-ending thoughtfulness. Her family and numerous friends knew they could count on her for she was only a phone call away.

Thinking about all of you during this time. I loved Aunt Pat so much! She never forgot about me even after I moved to ND 20 years ago; she still sent me a Christmas gift every single year. I loved when I got to see her when I was visiting in Billings. She always had a smile, was chipper, and wanted to know everything I had been up to. I'll miss her so much. We feel so fortunate to have known the Kapptie family, We first met Pat and Jim in the early 70's. Saying that, we were able to see all of their children & some of their grandchildren grow up. Family was very important to them, they always talked about them with love and respect. I feel so lucky to have been able to spend quite a bit of time with Pat lately & enjoying lunches together. I was happy to see her services online because of health issues we could not attend in person. I will miss my dear friend , all of my thoughts and prayers are with the entire Kapptie family and friends.
