Obituary
Kay Shartzer, 69, of Billings Montana, passed away the evening of April 16th at St. Vincent Healthcare with loved ones at her side. She lost the battle she had been fighting for over a year after getting COVID.
Kay was born in Billings, MT on September 29th, 1952 to Rex and Dorothy Shartzer. She was the baby of the family and was very loved by her older sisters, Ramona and Marcia. At a young age, Kay met Barb who became one of her best friends and sister. Kay spent time living in New York but eventually found her way back home to Billings.
In 1985, Kay brought her pride and joy into this world when she became a mom to J.R. He was the love of her life and brought her endless amounts of joy.
She spent her years in Billings running a daycare out of her home and helped raise dozens of children. She was known as “Nan” or “Nanny” to all of these kids and loved them as her own.
Kay had many passions in life and one of those included her love for bowling. She spent 30+ years bowling for the same league and could be found there every Wednesday night.
Another passion of Kay's was her love for adventure, laughter, good food, and Elvis Presley. She shared these loves with her best friend and oldest sissy, Monie. These two were inseparable, speaking multiple times every day. The two of them made countless trips to concerts and even traveled to Las Vegas and Graceland. You could find the two of them laughing and smiling each summer at the local fairgrounds as they enjoyed their favorite foods and live music.
To know Kay was to love Kay. She was everyone's “ go to” person for unconditional love, support, amazing hugs, and life advice. She made it a goal to be present in every event for all of her loved ones. Family was everything to her. She had a heart of gold, a personality bigger than anyone on this plant, and the ability to tell a person off better than anyone else. To say she will be missed is an understatement.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, her niece Tammy, and her best friend Barb.
She is survived by her son J.R., Sisters Ramona (Harvey) and Marcia (Randy), Nieces and Nephews Penny, Tracy, John (April), Randy (Sheri), David (Amanda), James (Sarah), Kelee (Steven&Xander), Tierra, Cheyenne (Joe), Jacob, Jadie (Tyler), Journey( Elianna& Kharisma), Sammy (DJ), and River.
A potluck style open house memorial will be held for Kay on May 14, 2022 at Auto Auction of Montana (4432 S Frontage Road, Billings MT) from 12:00-2:00 PM. If you so please, the family would love for you to bring a side dish to share in lieu of flowers or gifts.

Kay was my son Nigel's sitter also watched my granddaughter a few weeks. She was an excellent child care provider. We loved her. Sincere condolences to her son and family. I just found out tonight.
