Marvel Berniel Shearer (Turnquist / Reyman)

September 13, 1921 – October 7, 2025

On October 7, 2025, Marvel Berniel Shearer passed away peacefully in her sleep in Billings, Montana, just a few short weeks after celebrating her 104th birthday.

Marvel was born on September 13, 1921, in Terry, Montana, to Earl and Hazel Reyman. She was the eldest of three children, with a younger sister, Beverley, and a younger brother, Travis.

After graduating from Terry High School in 1939, Marvel moved to Billings to attend the College of Coiffure Arts. She went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career as a beautician. Marvel married Paul Turnquist on May 7, 1942, in Las Vegas, Nevada. With Paul, she welcomed

two daughters, Garnet and Mary, and became a stepmother to Jimmy and Gloria. After Paul’s military service, the family lived in Glendive, California, Terry, and eventually settled in Absarokee, Montana in 1955. Following Paul’s passing in 1958, Marvel later married Chuck Shearer, gaining two more stepdaughters, Joy and Charlene.

Marvel had a deep love for music. She sang in the church choir, played piano, and often filled her home with music. A woman of strong faith, she was a charter member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Billings. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend — known for her sharp wit, quiet strength, and steadfast kindness. She loved baseball, a good cup of coffee, and sharing stories of earlier times.

Marvel is survived by her sister-in-law, Darlene Reyman; her stepdaughters, Gloria Cawley, Joy Bossert, and Charlene Hoffman; granddaughters, Marvel Strickland Karch, Kelsey (Brian) Ward, and Trish (Pat) Connors; and great-grandchildren, Tyler (Kassie) Specht and Jacob Karch. She is also lovingly remembered by her nephews, Rick (Amy) Kasper, Steve (Mary) Kasper, and Reed (Sandra) Reyman; her niece, Juli (Kurt) Wanner; numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, dear friends, great-great-grandchildren, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Hazel Reyman; her sister Beverley (Jerry) Kasper; brother Travis Reyman; daughters Garnet Strickland and Mary Martin; son-in-law Vic Martin; stepson Jimmy Turnquist; grandson Paul Strickland; and nephew Gary Kasper.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Billings on Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Marvel’s memory to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
