Danny Stevens

Danny Merrill Stevens, 72, died peacefully at his home in Post, Texas, on August 5, 2026.

Danny was born January 13, 1954, in Kimball, Nebraska, to Herbert and Delia (McGinn) Stevens. The youngest of ten children, he grew up in the Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, area alongside his siblings Floyd, Kenneth, Bob, Bill, Pauline, Kathy, Richard, Elizabeth and Gary. He graduated from Pine Bluffs High School in 1972.

A talented athlete and musician, Danny attended Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming, on both basketball and music scholarships. After one semester, he left college to begin working. He worked in the oil fields of Wyoming and Colorado before moving to Montana, but it was truck driving that became the work he enjoyed most. Once Danny caught the trucking bug, it stayed with him; he continued to love getting behind the wheel and heading down the road.

Danny was previously married to Eileen Gabel, with whom he had his son, Justin. On June 17, 1989, he married Jean Kirby at Rock Creek Resort in Red Lodge, Montana, joining her family and becoming a stepfather to Sherman, Chad and Jarrett Kirby. Jean preceded him in death on January 27, 2018. Danny later married Sandra Davis Laws on May 9, 2022. He moved to Post, Texas, in May 2022 and attended the Primitive Baptist Church in Snyder, Texas.

Danny is survived by his wife, Sandra Stevens of Post, Texas; his son, Justin (Elisha) Stevens; his stepsons, Sherman (Erin) Kirby, Chad Kirby, Jarrett Kirby, Clayton (Kary) Laws and Jeremy (Kriston) Laws; his grandson, Brevan Stevens; his stepgrandchildren, Brayden (Hayley), Shay, Ezra & Ella Kirby, Zarek, Elijah, Finley, & Avery Kirby and Kailey, Braydon, Brycin and Cohen Laws; and his great-grandchildren, Warren and Blake Kirby.

He is also survived by his siblings Ken (Marilyn) of Kimball, Nebraska; Bob (Lou) of Dolores, Colorado; Richard of California; Elizabeth (Gary) of Denver, Colorado; and Gary (Yolanda) of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Delia Stevens, and his siblings Floyd, Bill, Pauline and Kathy.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Dahl's Funeral and Crematory, 10 Yellowstone Avenue in Billings, Montana. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Mountview Cemetery, 1704 Central Avenue in Billings.
