Dennis “Denny” Michael McDonnell, 67, of Absarokee, MT passed away in his home on Friday, May 6, 2022, surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Denny was born in Lewistown, MT on February 8, 1955, to parents Sam and Nileen (Mathews) McDonnell.
Denny attended school in the Lewistown area, and after graduating from St. Leo's High School in 1974, he moved to Payson, AZ where he excelled in all aspects of the construction and concrete industry. In 1978 he married Sid Myers, and they had three kids together: Sarah, Michelle, and Samuel.
Denny returned to Montana in the early '90s and continued working in the construction/concrete business to hone his skill as a concrete mason. In 2007 he welcomed a third daughter, Hannah, whom he enjoyed watching cheer for local sporting events.
Denny was well known for his extraordinary work ethic, and remarkable talent with concrete. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, and could often be found floating the river, camping, or spending time with his family. An outgoing guy with a big heart, Denny will be missed by many.
Denny is survived by his children: Sarah of Absarokee, MT, Michelle (Steve) of San Antonio, TX, Samuel of Payson, AZ, Hannah of Columbus, MT; brothers and sisters: Andy of Bozeman, Matt (Shirley) of Billings, Sarah (Bill) of Bozeman, Margaret of Billings, Mary of Bozeman; four grandkids, three great-grandkids, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Nileen, and brothers Pat and John.
Celebration of life will be held at the 5 Spot in Absarokee on May 20, at 6pm, burial will be later this summer.

When we moved to Absarokee 15 years ago, Denny was one of the first people we met. His smile wattage was off the charts. Coming from Seattle, he was the epitome of a "Cowboy". I never saw him when he didn't have that smile. We have so many memories to cherish of him and many members of his family. He is greatly missed.

The things I will always remember about Denny are his wry smile and good hearted attitude. I also remember how he was a natural in sports. I feel lucky to have been able to call him my friend. I’ll miss him. RIP Denny—loved ya!!

So many memories of the man that lit up the room with his smile, that could dance the night away.. His happy go lucky self will never be forgotten. Memories of Denny, always tug at my heart. My condolences to his family.

Whoever wrote this obituary doesn't know simple math. Hannah was born in 2004. Shows how much she was thought of as part of the family! Terrible that it is public records! Especially when she graduated highschool this year! He will be missed terribly by his daughter. They did everything together and he was a huge support for her in cheer! Hannah was his princess!
