Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of June Evelyn Silbernagel, who left us on January 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in her home. Born on April 29, 1927, in Clitherall, Minnesota, June lived a life defined by kindness, warmth, and devotion to her family.
A Life of Love and Partnership
June met the love of her life, Earl "Sonny" Silbernagel, while working together in a café. Earl saw her come down the stairs and told his friend, "I'm going to marry that girl." True to his word, they married on October 14, 1950, in Fergus Falls, MN. Together, they moved to Billings, MT, where they built a life filled with love, partnership, and a close-knit family. June cherished the love letters Earl sent her while serving in the military in Korea, each envelope marked with "S.W.A.K xoxoxo" (Sealed With A Kiss).
Family and Legacy
June was a loving mother and grandmother, whose gentle spirit and unwavering support touched all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Kay McMorris (Roger McMorris), Judy Hilario (Fred Hilario), Darcy Diaz (Chevo Diaz), Donnie-boy Silbernagel (Rhonda Silbernagel), Tommy Silbernagel (Lurline Silbernagel), Lindee Silbernagel, as well as her sister LaVay Wallenvand (Larry Wallenvand).
June was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Silbernagel, her daughter Shari Silbernagel, her granddaughter BrookLin Warren, and many other family members. She is also survived by her beloved 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Simple Pleasures and Cherished Memories
June found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She cherished her Monday afternoon bingo games, delighted in ice cream, coconut cream pie, and shrimp, and treated everyone with kindness, always living by the Golden Rule. One of her favorite stories was joining her “gang” for a motorcycle ride around the block.
Family gatherings, especially during the holidays, brought her great happiness. No holiday was complete without the family’s famous Bouillon Rice and a bowl full of black olives for the kids to place on their fingers. Halloween at Gramma’s house was legendary, with cousins gathering to trick-or-treat and many grandchildren proudly wearing the famous handmade clown costume. Christmas was always celebrated, and June made sure each of her children had a Holiday Lifesavers box in their stockings downstairs—often quickly claimed by the grandchildren.
Her warmth, generosity, and zest for life will be remembered by all who knew her. She cherished her family and provided unconditional love and support throughout her life. The turquoise house on Phillip Street will forever hold a special place in many hearts. Rest in peace our sweet June, S.W.A.K xoxo
