Obituary

Roy Gene Allen, 74, of Billings, passed away on August 26, 2022, after a short illness.


Roy was born in Missoula, MT to Gene M. Allen and Florence M. (Pace) Allen and spent his youth in Drummond, where he graduated high school in 1966.


He ranched in Gold Creek and Livingston until moving to Billings where he began a long career as a truck driver for SuperValu. A skilled driver, he was the truck rodeo champion for many years. He loved the freedom of being on the road and enjoyed classic cars, traveling to Broncos games, and road trips to visit family and friends. He will be forever loved and missed.


Roy is preceded in death by his parents; sister Hazel (Allen) Jackson; and granddaughter Lauren Danise Ouzts. He is survived by his brother Edwin Allen; wife Cathy (Barnard) Allen; children Danise Nelson, Laurie Allen, and Jesse Allen; and grandchildren Allex, Jordan, and Tyler.


The family will hold a graveside service at Valley Cemetery in Drummond, MT at a later date, to be announced.

I was just informed of Roy's passing today, Wednesday 09/14/22. I hired Roy and worked with him for many years at SUPERVALU and went to a National Truck Roadeo with Roy. Roy was a great driver and a great person. He was a very good employee for SUPERVALU and would do anything to help out whenever needed. He was also a good friend. I hated to hear this news. My thoughts and prayers are with you Cathy and the rest of your family. Scotty Armstrong

I worked with Roy for over 20 years. Words cannot express the admiration I had for him. He was not a quitter; we could always count on Roy to get the job done. The last couple of years at SuperValu before he was able to retire, he worked in the guard shack because his back hurt too much for him to drive a tractor. Every day before he went home, he would plan out what doors the next day's incoming trucks should use, so the product would be closest to where it was stored in the warehouse. His meticulousness was an immense help to the receiving shift. After his "official" retirement, he came back to work part-time delivering product that came in too late to make the normal delivery or got left off trucks. Some weeks he worked more hours than a regular driver! Many times he made the trip to Florence to deliver a few cases of product, then stayed overnight in Missoula to be with his mother. If I was still at work when he'd get back from runs, he'd stop by and we'd visit a few minutes about his mother and his family. Roy dearly loved his family. Our sincere condolences.
