Philip Lee Bradley was born August 5, 1989 and left this world on August 31, 2022. He graduated as a National Merit Scholar from West High School in 2008 and attended the University of Montana as a member of the Honors College majoring in Environmental Studies.


One of his biggest joys during his early adult life was working at UM's PEAS Farm, learning skills that he later brought to various organic and local farm efforts in the Billings area. He briefly attended Montana State University Billings, and he worked in construction, first in the old Federal building in Billings and later on several home projects. More recently, he developed a small pet care business that he enjoyed immensely. All the while, he continued gardening at home, often planting wheat, corn, or cover crops near the street so children could enjoy them on their way to and from school. Sometimes neighbors stopped to say how the wheat reminded them of their rural past.


Philip had an expansive mind and was able to make connections and see relationships that many of us overlook. He read voraciously, mostly on topics related to religion. His great love was the Baha'i Faith, which holds that all religions come from the same source, are interconnected, and share the same essential message. As a result, he was dedicated to promoting unity in the world, both locally and globally.


Those of us who were close to Philip were fortunate to engage in conversations about his reading and reflections, and he curated many of these observations on his Facebook page, which has now become a legacy: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100071607292483. Philip had a kind, gentle, and loving spirit perhaps less of this world than of the next. Family and friends alike have been enriched by his presence, and all have been abundantly grateful and deeply thankful for the time they shared with him.


Philip is survived by his parents, James Bradley and Tami Haaland, his brother Nathan Bradley, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins on both sides of the family.


Dear son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, we will miss our family gatherings with you, our long walks, and inspiring conversations. What an honor it has been to know you.


A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday September 6, 2022 at Dahl Funeral Chapel.

Dear Tami & Jim -- What a privilege for the two of you to have brought such a sensitive and generous soul as Philip into this world and--along with his brother, Nathan--to have nurtured and accompanied him on his too-brief stay on this earthly plane! One of my fond memories is of the time the two of us spent preparing ourselves to hold Children's Classes using the Core Curriculum provided by the NSA. Another is of his willingness to assist the LSA with the task of finding hosts for Feasts, and of the respectful and encouraging manner in which he educated the Friends about the bounty of such hospitality. I will continue to grieve his loss with you and Nathan, and hope that you will be solaced by the assurance that his unfettered spirit remains present among us as we call on him to assist us in our efforts to bring Baha'u'llah's healing Message to humanity. Oh Phillip you have filled up my heart so many times with your beautiful smile, your warmth and wit, and your deep reverence for everything that walks this earth. You are possibly the most intelligent boy and man I have ever known. Bodhi’s love for you speaks volumes. You have blessed us all, and your grace will continue on in those of us who have had the great gift of your presence in our lives. I will always miss you. Phil; you will always be Bodhi’s boy.

I remember Phillip as a handsome, thoughtful, pleasant and devoted fellow pilgrim when we met in 2007 and it was such a bounty to share that experience with him. Including the ice cream! I cherish those memories and the friendship that was born from it, and I have loved the glimpses that you have offered, Jim and Tami, of these two outstanding human beings--your sons--through the years. Phillip, I cannot help but feel the world is diminished with your absence. It is not ours to understand why your time with us was so very short, but we will carry on with certitude that your work here on earth was somehow complete and with gratitude for the gift of knowing you.

Dear Tami, James, Nathan, family, and friends, Though I wasn't lucky enough to have met Philip, I was deeply touched by the family's words about him and offer condolences to all. What a generous gift he gave the neighborhood to plant wheat and corn, etc. in a visible spot that reminded many of their roots in Montana. I hope there is some comfort for you in knowing of his spiritual quest. Jodi Varon

We ran into Philip by chance at Wheat Montana in Three Forks. He didn't know us very well, but he was gracious and we had a nice conversation. He was a gentle person and very kind, which came through in our brief encounter.
