Janice Saffo

On November 4, 2022, Janice (Jan) Saffo, 78, passed away at Tender Nest Assisted Living in Billings, MT. Jan was born in Provo, UT as the only child of Herbert and Maxine Shook. Jan's childhood was spent in towns throughout the west where the family followed the career of her father, who was a mining engineer. Most of their time was spent in Sandpoint, ID, which is what she thought of as her hometown.

Jan was very physically active in her early adulthood and enjoyed skiing and hiking along with all the other activities that the Rocky Mountains provide. In 1970 she married and opened the Yellowstone Sports Center with her husband in Emigrant, MT. There they had four children together: Carrie, Becky, Clint, and Buck. She introduced her children to her love of the outdoors including hiking and skiing, maintaining her very active lifestyle. In 1983 the marriage dissolved, and she moved away from the store to Livingston, MT. It was around this time that she received the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. While the disease progressed slowly, through the years, it robbed her of the active life that she had once enjoyed. She did her best to stave off the physical decline through nutritional based interventions, as modern medicine did not offer any effective treatments. After living several years in Livingston, she finally settled in Billings, MT where she spent the rest of her days.

Jan is survived by all four of her children and her eight grandchildren: Devon Bosby, Kayleen Bosby, Sebastian Trevino, Brooke Trevino, Connor Saffo, Ryan Saffo, Luke Saffo, and Megan Saffo. The family will have private arrangements to bid farewell.
