Linda Batt - Gelder

Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Linda Dianne Batt-Gelder, on November 24, 2022. Linda was 76 years young. She passed away surrounded by her husband and children after a heroic battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Linda was born and raised in and around Billings, Montana, the daughter of Edward and Martha Batt, lastly of Worden, Montana. She honed her incredible work ethic with long work days in her family's beet fields. She attended Billings West High School and Eastern Montana College and raised her three children on family cattle ranches northwest of Billings.

Linda worked various jobs throughout her life, including as a bookkeeper at Quad Five (Ryegate), Stockton Oil (Billings), and Midland Claims (Billings). She had a flair for numbers, able to do complex calculations in her head.

She met her husband, Roger Gelder, the love of her life, in January 2004. They were married in April of 2005 and spent many years in Cody, Wyoming before settling back in Billings in 2018.

Linda was beautiful, charismatic, loving, and intelligent. She was known for her razor-sharp wit and pranks . . . a gift passed on to all her children. An avid gardener, voracious reader, and lover of animals, her most peaceful times were long walks with her dogs in the open prairies of Montana and Wyoming.

Linda is survived by her loving husband, Roger Gelder; her children, Dusty Nelson, Kelly Nelson, and Brand Nelson and his wife Donella; her stepson, David Gelder and his wife Jill; her eight grandchildren, Montana Hanson, Lily Nelson, Addison Nelson, Bergin Nelson, Trinity Nelson, Treve Gelder, Jobi Gelder, and Hansen Gelder; and her brother and sisters, Daniel Batt, Marilyn Dunn, Bonita Ericksen, and Marshall Batt. And we'd be remiss to forget her beloved dog Maggie and cats, Olive, Two, and Aramis.

She will be eternally missed and remembered by her family forever. Her passing has left a hole in our lives that will never be filled, but we are blessed with an abundance of memories and laughter that we carry with us.

As per Linda's wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. There will be a private Celebration of Life on January 21, 2023 with only close family members and friends present

My condolences to all her family members. Linda was a beautiful lady and so enjoyed being around her. A funny memory of her was her forgetting to turn the oven on. When she went to check on how the turkey was cooking, she returned to the living room to let us know that Ham was replacing turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Such a clever, funny and prepared lady. Love and hugs!

I was so lucky to visit with Linda this past year at an estate sale. I hadn't seen her for a very long time. I will always remember her at West High as one of the nicest and attractive people I was lucky enough to know.
