Obituary

Barbara Jacobina Heiser passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 3, 2023. She was born in Golden Valley, North Dakota to William (Bill) and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Erdmann. At the age of six, her family packed up their belongings and headed to California. Along the way, they stopped in Billings, Montana to visit relatives and decided to stay. After graduating from Senior High, Barbara worked as a switchboard operator for Mountain Bell. She met the love of her life, Buford (Bud) Heiser. The two were engaged on Christmas Eve 1952 and were married on June 13, 1953. Barbara was a stay-at-home mother caring for her three children. When her youngest child entered first grade, Barbara went back to work starting her career as an internal auditor for Midland Bank. During her twenty-one years, she gained the esteem of coworkers and leaders through her attention to detail and strong integrity.


Barbara loved the outdoors, especially camping, boating, and fishing with her family. She was a gifted painter, even learning watercolor in recent years. Her love of music persuaded Bud to learn how to dance, and they spent Saturday nights dancing at the Elks Club while enjoying their friends' company. She was a social butterfly who loved card games and group activities. Most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Heiser; parents, Bill and Minnie Erdmann; sisters, Ruth Lembares, Florence Phillips, and LaVerne Lyles; and brother, Bill Erdmann. She is survived by her children: Mike Heiser of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Paula (Bill) Hurlbert of Bozeman, Montana, and Shelley (Kevin) Massick of Billings, Montana; her five grandchildren: Autumn (Tim) Norman, Corey (Kate) Heiser, Tyler Hurlbert, Annie (Kody) Heiser, Kyle Massick; and six great-grandchildren.


The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at St. John's United—The Vista for the excellent care they provided Barbara.


The memorial service will be 11:00 am on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 10 Yellowstone Avenue, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Aunt Barb and Uncle Bud, taught my sister and I many things growing up. They taught me how to hunt, fish, camp and brand cattle. They were always there when we need them, Uncle Buds parents reared us and they constantly involved us in their family activities. Paula, Mike And Shelly were like brother and sisters to us, many great memories were made. Although time drew us all apart (and my own independance) the memories of Sunday dinners and Holidays will last forever. Barbara may the Lord bless you and Enjoy your time with Bud. James Henrickson
