Richard and I attended the Two Dot School together and were friends. I have memories of one summer when Richard was 11 and I was 10. That summer he and his family lived on the Settle Ranch which was located about 3 miles east of Martinsdale along US 12. The Martinsdale Mercantile, sponsored a contest that year awarding a prize to the kid who collected the most Standby can labels. As the winner, Richard was awarded a 3-speed bike, which was a rarity in those days. On several days that summer, my dad dropped me and my bike off to spend the day with Richard. We rode our bikes all over the ranch which included a stop at the swimming hole located at the confluence of the North and South Fork of the Musselshell River. I remember that we spent one day sprouting potatoes in the ranch root cellar. For those of you who don't know, that meant pulling sprouts out of the eyes of the previous year's potatoes so that they wouldn't shrivel up. Good memories of 'The Good Ole' Days'! I met Richard years ago during my first hunt with his stepsons Shawn and Cody. We hit it off immediately. He had a wonderful sense of humor that put me at ease during our many family meals at the house. We didn't always agree on everything but that never stopped us from laughing and poking at each other. I've always considered him a friend and I believe he felt the same. On more than one occasion as we finished a wonderful 12 course meal that Julie had fixed the question would be "who wants dessert?" Richard would reply "I can't eat anymore or I've got to minimize my sugar intake". The next thing you'd see would be Richard standing at the kitchen counter trying to figure out how to get some of the dessert w/out anyone noticing. Funny guy. I'm going to miss him. Ryan Bloom
