Obituary
Donald Herman Schraudner was born November 27, 1955, to Herman and Opal Schraudner in Billings, MT. He passed away January 30, 2023.
Growing up on the family ranch, Don was a natural cowboy. He graduated from Broadview High School where he excelled in track and basketball. He attended college in Powell, WY with dreams of becoming a rodeo star. He went on to work for Yellowstone Paper Company for 20+ years.
In 1978 he married Sheila Schenk. Together they built Schraudner Angus from scratch and raised top quality registered Angus genetics. They had two sons, Dawson and Jordan. Don was a proud father and taught his sons all he knew about cattle, horses, and life on a ranch. He liked fishing and hunting, but what he loved the most was watching his boys get the big catch or the big buck.
On September 8th, 2007, he married Sonia Ringler. After owning the Homestead Inn for several years, they moved to his childhood home and brought the ranch back to life.
Don was known by many as a vibrant man, always ready with a witty joke or story from his glory days. He loved teaching his grandkids how to feed cows, braid a horse's mane, and tie a strong knot. He told them stories about riding bulls, crashing motorcycles, and throwing hay bales when he got caught coming home late. There aren't enough words to describe Don's remarkable life.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Opal, his brother David, and his sister Cindy.
He is survived by his wife Sonia; sons Dawson (Meagan) and Jordan (Michelle); Sonia's children Ryan (Teresa), Rayne (Nathan) and Rachael (Chris); sister Coleen Badgett; brother Gary Schraudner; and grandchildren Kase, Lily, Evie, Mabel, Calvin, Kaylee, Kristopher, Marc, Blake, Josie, and Connor.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Friday February 3rd, 2023, at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 10 Yellowstone Ave, Billings MT. Following the service, a reception will be held in Broadview at the Homestead Inn, 16551 Iowa Avenue.
