Melvina Sheard

Melvina Mae (Kahler) Sheard was born on July 13, 1948 to Harold and Elsie (Lenhardt) Kahler in Billings, MT. She was the oldest of three children and would often remind her brothers, Larry and Jerry, who was the boss. While growing up she attended Miles Avenue Elementary, Lewis and Clark Jr High, and Billings West High School. It was there that she met Gordon Peterson; upon marriage they were blessed with two children, Nadine and Todd. Later in life she met John Sheard who would end up being the love of her life. They married in 1982 and added John's three children, Susan, Michael and Amy to their beautifully blended family.

Melvina had many jobs in her lifetime but among some of her favorites were working at Gainan's Flower Shop in sales and as a designer, and working in sales for Bromar Food Brokerage. Her most favorite was the place she called home for the last 19 years—Deaconess Billings Clinic, which is also where she chose to go to rest.

To know Melvina was to love her. She had the kindest and most giving heart to others. She played many roles in life, but those that will leave an impact on the family left behind are as a sister who spoiled, a devoted wife, a loving mother, an amazing mother-in-law, a caring aunt, a wonderful grandma and the very BEST Gigi. She remained positive during her “good fight" and she never wanted to give up because time with family was the most important to her. Even until her last moments, those that gathered were blessed by her wonderful sense of humor and “twizzler lipstick.”

Mel had been battling kidney failure for the past five years and with the other injuries and illnesses during this time her body could no longer fight the good fight. She had many amazing caregivers and facilities during this time providing her with the care she needed; among them were Deaconess Billings Clinic, Aspen Meadows Assisted Living and her Dialysis team (who she had come to love as family). The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of these individuals for their service and commitment to her healthcare and for the love they provided over the years.

Melvina is preceded in death by parents Harold and Elsie Kahler, brother Larry Kahler, nephew David Kahler, bonus daughter Amy Sheard, and great niece Payton Sparboe. She is survived by her soul mate/husband John Sheard; brother Jerry Kahler (Patsy); children Susan Sheard (Alex), Michael Sheard (Tracy), Todd Peterson, and Nadine Scoville (John); grandchildren Kristin Sheard (Angel), Kobe Sheard, Nicole Sargent (Adam), Sora Bruski (Caleb), Skyler Peterson, and Samantha Scott (Daunte); great-grandchildren Luca, Remington, Madison, Greyson, Titus, Hollis, Ronin, Winry, Mya, and Zoe, and many other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
