Obituary

Francis (Fran) Joseph Hummel passed peacefully in his sleep in his childhood home on May 5th, 2023. Fran was born in Billings, Montana on March 9th, 1947, to Rose and Jacob Hummel, the youngest of their 9 children.


Fran was raised in Billings attending Little Flower, Fratt, and graduating from Billings Central Catholic High School in 1965. He attended the University of Portland before returning to Billings. Fran worked various jobs during his career but truly excelled at designing kitchens and spent many years at American Appliance where he finally completed his career in 2012.


Fran loved basketball and coached many young men at Fratt when he returned from college. He also loved bowling and was active in the leagues in Billings for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and worked there at one point in his career.


Fran was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Raymond, Vincent, Lawrence, Edmund, and Jerome and by his sisters Marcell and Lucille. He is survived by his sister Beatrice and many nieces and nephews.


A memorial is planned for the summer when family and friends will gather to celebrate his life.

My name is Tara Romero I rented a house for Fran he was my landlord he was a very good man me and him we talked for hours I’d go over and clean up his house go to the store but I want to tell his family I’m sorry for his loss

Dawn L I just heard about Frans passing. We worked together at American Appliance. He taught me everything about sales and design(not really but he liked to say it). Our desks were 4 foot apart. I learned so much from him. One of his relation bought my Firebird convertible. He was also supposed to be my man of honor when I got married. We really were close friends back then, time goes so fast… we were just talking about him last week. He was a great friend to me a big brother and friend. Until we meet again!! ❤️🥀
