Trevor J. McKay passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 13, 2023.


He was born in Billings in 1981, and graduated from Billings Senior High School. After graduation, he followed his older brothers and moved to San Diego, California to attend college. During that time, he also worked for the Marine Corps and Sherwin Williams.


Always fond of his hometown, he moved back to Billings in 2012 and worked for the city; serving the public gave him pride and he enjoyed doing so.


We will remember Trevor as a kind-hearted and unique soul, who shared his thoughts and feelings freely; he was always willing to offer help and never seemed to ask for anything in return. Trevor loved all animals and they seemed to be drawn to him, as well.


Trevor is survived by his mother Barbara McKay of Billings, brothers Ryan (Tiffany) McKay, their sons Bronson and Dagen of San Marcos, CA, and Darren (Jocelyn) McKay, their daughter Paige of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Terry McKay.

Barb, Darren, and Ryan I’m so sorry for your loss, Trevor was a lifelong friend of mine and no matter how much time passed we picked up like non had, I will truly miss him and there will be a void only he could fill, he was outspoken and stoic, and always said what was on his mind. When I think of him I picture his huge smile And how many laughs we shared together over the years and there were plenty. Take Care of each other and Trevor I Love You Man and Rest Peacefully until we see each other again ❤️

It's still hard to come to grips with the loss of my brother-in-law, Trevor. In the last 23 years we've shared a lot. From being roommates, to helping Darren and I move into our 1st house, to welcoming our 1st puppy, Koda, and his beautiful Niece, Paige. I will miss his quirky comments and that smirk. Trev, you went far too soon but the memory of you will always be in our hearts forever. We love you!

Trevor and I had way too much fun growing up in the same neighborhood together. It was an unlikely match, but somehow we just clicked. I remember Trevor as a generous and good friend who always had my back. We always talked about meeting back up but life always got in the way. My greatest memories are hangout out in Trevor’s basement playing pool and listening to violent femmes. Driving around in his gmc and always having people or dogs in the back. Then there were the times where we’d just hang and watch Braveheart or talk about some crazy conspiracy. I Miss Trevor and the fun times we had and I regret not getting to know him again later on in life.

Trevor was an online friend of mine since about 2017 and I never knew his real name. He played a variety of online characters in the MMORPG Baldurs Gate TSCC, each with very different personalities. All were quite thrilling and sometimes got me physically shaking. Imagine reading a horror novel but you are in it. Trevor was one of the most imaginative writers, actors and roleplayers I have ever met. It was rare that Trevor stepped out of character so I didn't really get to know the man behind the mask. But in that world he was both feared and loved and very respected by the BGTSCC community. Trevor inspired many including myself. That energy will live on. I'm always going to miss you Trevor. You are free from that tired and broken body now. I hope you find a better one in the next life.

My condolences to the McKay family. Trevor was my friend. I can’t say that about many people but I can say that about him. May he find the peace many of us seek in life but rarely find.

Barb I am so sorry to hear of Trevor‘s passing. I remember when we were all together at Hauser Lake. That was the only time I was really around him but remember that we all had a great time. My thoughts and my prayers are with you. Love, Cheryl Bentley
