Tyler Grant Left Hand, iichiilikaashe baaaatchilaache “Lucky Elk” was born on July 19th, 1968, to Gladys LaForge and Melvin Left Hand in Crow Agency, MT. He was a member of the Piegan Clan and child of the Big Lodge Clan. He lost his battle to cancer, on May 14th, 2023.
Growing up on the Crow reservation he attended Lodge Grass School, from head start through high school. He graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 1986. Immediately after high school, he attended college at Haskell University from 1986-1987, where he played collegiate basketball. During his younger years, he excelled in basketball, he played in All-Indian Basketball Tournaments where he was selected as an all-star and MVP numerous times. He was well known for his arrow-throwing abilities, arrow making. He was a part of the champions arrow throwing teams for Lodge Grass district & Spearsiding. He played both in the Junior and Senior divisions and was recognized as high point man and a Champion of Champions holding the title for several years.
He loved hunting and fishing, especially in the Big Horn Mountains. He would travel all over with his brothers, dad, and uncles for horse racing. He also enjoyed darts, Horseshoes, and playing pool. He excelled at these activities due to his great aim and claimed many championships. He participated in the sweat lodge and Sundance Ceremonies with his big brother Les. He loved his children and grandchildren very much.
Tyler was preceded in death by his parents Gladys LaForge and Melvin Left Hand, his maternal grandparents Maxine Bull Shows-LaForge and Alex LaForge, Sr., his paternal grandparents Peter Left Hand and Folka Bloodman, his uncles Anthony Left Hand, Fredrick Left Hand, Ira Left Hand, Edward Left Hand, Tyler Left Hand and his niece Jordena Delaney Rose Bright Wings and his sister Susan LaForge. His cousins Eymard Left Hand, Gilbert Left Hand, Fredrick (Sweet) Left Hand.
He is survived by his daughters Tyann (Jason) Calf Robe, Taylor, and Tawnya Left Hand, his nieces Maxine, Quin, Sarina and Letesia (Jono) Left Hand, his son Tayshawn Left Hand and his nephews Melvin Tyler, Les Jr., Skyler and Xavier Hunter Left Hand, and Kris Snow; sisters Melanie Left Hand, Lynn LaForge; brother Les (Lesley) Left Hand, Daniel (Sylvia) LaForge, Terry Enemy Hunter, Ceivert LaForge; uncle Marshall (Barbara) Left Hand, and his grandchildren Sunni Mae, Susie, and Broly Calf Robe.
