Obituary

Sylvia Gale Gollick (Riplett), 77, passed away on February 14, 2025, in Billings, Montana.

Born on December 13, 1947, in Billings, Sylvia was the daughter of Clyde and Cecelia Riplett. She dedicated her life to caring for others, a passion that led her to attend St. Vincent Nursing School, where she became a registered nurse. Her career spanned over three decades at St. John's, where she provided compassionate care to countless patients. Nursing was more than just a profession for Sylvia—it was a calling that reflected her deep commitment to serving others.

On June 15, 1968, Sylvia married the love of her life, David Gollick. Their marriage of 56 years was filled with love, adventure, and shared passions. Together, they enjoyed fishing trips to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, creating cherished memories in the beauty of nature.

Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found immense joy in her family. She is survived by her husband, David; daughters Nicole DelCamp (Dale), and Heather Wible (Jamie); son Travis Gollick; and Travis's best friend Paul Karch, who Sylvia and David considered to be one of their own children and his wife Addie; and brother Rod Riplett (Billie) and their 2 children and their families. She was also a proud grandmother to Megan, Kyle, Trevor, Mike, Josh, Will, and Christian. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did—from spending time with her grandchildren to enjoying thrift shopping outings with loved ones.

Her faith was an essential part of her life. Sylvia had a strong Christian faith and a servant's heart that guided her every action. She touched many lives with her kindness and unwavering devotion to those around her.

Sylvia will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John's United of Billings in honor of Sylvia's memory.

Sylvie was a good friend and mentor to me at St Johns. I was her ADON and a nurse manager for her. She was an incredible leader and a good judge of people's character and could read a room like no other. I learned a lot about leadership watched Sylvia work and she had a special love for the residents she was charged with caring for. She will always hold a special place in my heart and St Johns was blessed to have her lead the nursing department with grace, finesse, love and devotion the many years she served in that sacred ministry. She was the best. Period.

Sylvia and I became closer student nurse friends when we traveled from our psychiatric rotation at Warm Springs to Great Falls so she could visit her fiancee David and I visited a Friend Shelley at the college. We kept in touch and her daughter Nichole was our flower girl when Roger and I got married July 22,1973. RIP DEAR FRIEND. Theresia (Johannsen) Yeager.

Sylvia was an exceptional woman. I remember the first day that she came to work at St. John's. She said she had to go to work to pay for a hot tub. That was not to be. Sylvia was such a a gift and a blessing to many, many people. She gave many years of blood, sweat and tears to St. John's, and gave so many wonderful memories. She was a great friend and mentor. Some people leave an imprint on our hearts so deep that their presence is never truly gone. Sylvia was one of those rare and remarkable souls. Her compassion knew no bounds, her wisdom lifted others, and her example inspired excellence in all who had the privilege of working alongside her. I was one of those privileged ones. Rest easy, dear Sylvie. Your legacy of love, leadership, and laughter will never be forgotten. 💙

I will always remember Sylvia for her grace, beauty and elegance. She was a true friend as well as a mentor. My favorite memory is how she would lower her glasses on her nose when she had to be firm. I can’t say I actually was on the receiving end, okay maybe once, but that was because she set the bar high for patient care. Sylvia, I will forever remember your kindness. Rest in peace beautiful lady.

There was no other like Sylvia. The most honest, fair and caring person. I learned and grew as a person while working for/with her. Amazed by her professionalism, Sylvie was still a common person who could relate to anyone and treated them as such. My years with her I got to know her family. A close loving family which was the most important part of her life. Sylvie will be forever in my families hearts and thoughts. Love you and miss you. Ellen and family
