I never imagined when I set off to move across the country from TN to MT that I would find an instant beat friend and guardian angel. I had the beautiful privilege of living with Marge for a couple of months at the end of 2019 when I moved to Montana. She had just had her hip replacement surgery, and the intention was for me to be there to lend aid as she recovered. Little did I know, that my new roommate would run circles around me at her age of 87. During our short time living together, Marge taught me more about true love, selfless friendship, Faith, and cooking then I had experienced my entire life. Honestly. My mother was not around when I was growing up due to substance abuse, so I lacked a lot in those areas. And despite the turmoil I was facing at the time, Marge not only welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like family, she also became my best friend. I confided in Marge some of my most difficult times, and she never judged me or let me feel alone. We would swap stories about our lives and loves. We would cry and laugh have wine daily. One of the things I miss most about our time is our Friday ventures into Billings to get her hair and nails done. She had more style than me ten fold. On the drive she would always fuss at me to stay under 55 on airport road, because she got pulled over there for going 56 once many years ago! In town, we would visit Shannon and the family or catch up with Wacey. Sometimes we attended a high school volleyball game. Marge always cheered the loudest. I felt so alive being around her. I also remember the time Marge told me that our task for the day was baking. I was up for it.. I’d never learned how and I love bread.. Little did I know, like all things Marge did, it wasn’t just she and I that we were baking for. We started at 8 am after coffee and ended just before our evening wine, around 8 pm. I was exhausted! But I should’ve known.. because everything Marge did included an act of service or kindness to someone else. Before I moved out, I remember Marge holding my hand during our evening wine and telling me how lonely she had been since Bob passed away, and how having me home with her had been so peaceful. It broke and filled my heart all at once. We cried together. I will cherish that moment for the rest of my life. I will tell my kids and grand kids about it. We each were enduring our own heartbreak, and in that time of darkness and loneliness, God gave us one another. I can type a book about just the 2 months I spent with Marge.. But I’ll leave it at a thank you. Thank you Marge for sharing your home, heart and family with me. Thank you Shannon, Rona, Wace, and the rest of the family for sharing your mother and extending kindness and welcome to me. And Thank you you, Lord, for bringing the spark of love and light that was Marge Jorgenson into my life.

We so enjoyed Marge and loved sitting with her in the grandstands as she clutched her rosary. She and Bob were such a team and were gracious hosts. We attended several Thanksgiving dinners at St Benedict’s with Shannon and Doug - Marge and Bob were always immersed in the work detail. We will never forget dinner at their Roundup home and the feast Marge prepared. We will miss her kind smile and gentle ways. “Grief is a passage, not a place to stay. And it is the price of love”. May your wonderful memories of life with Marge eventually bring peace and joy. Dave and Nancy Rigg
