Obituary
Dan Burchell Sr. was called to heaven on September 30, 2013. Dan was born in Butte MT on January 19, 1927, to James H. and Ivana Burchell. Dan attended Butte Catholic schools graduating from Butte Boy's Central High School where he excelled at athletics earning nine varsity letters in football, basketball and track. Dan is an inductee into the Butte Sports Hall of Fame. After graduation Dan proudly served during World War II in the United States Army, 6th division, 63rd combat infantry regiment. The 63rd saw action throughout the Philippines, Korea and Japan. Upon returning to Butte he married “The Love of His Life, and the prettiest girl in Butte” Shirley Treglown. Dan and Shirley were married for 60 years. In 1956, Dan moved his family to Billings when he accepted a position with United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company as a special agent. He worked for USF&G for over 32 years. Upon retirement, Dan was honored by the Montana Independent Insurance Agents Association with the Big Sky award for long and faith service. Throughout the years, Dan was always a big booster for youth activities. Dan loved the Billings Senior High Broncos, Rocky Mountain Bears, Billings American Legion baseball and Montana Grizzlies. But most importantly, Dan was a Green Bay Packers fan and stockholder. Dan was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his parents, two brothers Jim and Paul, and grandson Chris Wisecup. He is survived by his sons, Dan (Glynis) Burchell Jr., Jimmy (Diana) Burchell of Billings MT; Bobby (Tricia) Burchell of Campbell CA and his four daughters; Victoria (Col. Randy) Shaffer of Denver CO, Gayle (Mike) Wisecup of Laurel MT, Tracee Burchell of Billings MT, Janice Lowrence of Powell WY; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Dan is also survived by his beloved sister- in- law Marilyn Burchell, another Butte girl and her children. Dan's family would like to thank the staff and his many good friends at Aspen View Retirement Community for all the love and support you gave him. He loved you. Service: Celebration of Dan's life will be held Friday, October 4, 2013, 10:00 am at Dahl Funeral Chapel with interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Billings.

Dearest Burchell family- We are so very sorry for your loss. Dan was a fabulous man and we have fond memories of Dan and Shirley, especially at the ball field! Bobby and Trisha, you are especially in our thoughts and prayers. We think of you often and though our lives have put miles between us, we still cherish our friendship and memories. Find peace in knowing that Dan has reunited with the love of his life, and God has another special resident in heaven who will forever watch over you. We love you and miss you. Grandpa Dan, thank you for teaching me the importance of knowing where you come from. Thank you for showing us how to love the same person for 60 years. Thank you for the annual calendars and I forgive you for always using the picture of me when I was 9 months pregnant. Every year. I will miss you and I will make sure my children know all about you. We love you!
