Obituary

Jean Louise Loran (Bonnett) was born Feb. 23, 1965, to Frederick and Sigrid Bonnett as the oldest of three daughters in Boulder, Colorado. Her daughter was born in 1989. 

After a romance that could have been in a novel, Jean married Joe Loran in Las Vegas, NV, on Sept. 4, 1994 and gained another loving family in the Lorans. Jean worked a variety of jobs, including as a graphic designer for the Billings Gazette and an office manager for Grand Avenue Animal Hospital. She found her true calling as a pharmacy technician and made amazing friends. She enjoyed dressing fancy, traveling, spending time with her dogs, getting lost in books, and trivia with friends. 

Jean was always generous with her love and humor. She would do anything for the ones she adored and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. Jean had a witty remark for everything and loved fiercely.

Jean is survived by her daughter Jasmine (Allen) Shouse of Cantonment, Florida, stepson Mike (Erica) Renney of Helena, and five grandchildren: Aileck, Jaxon, Austin, Cody, and Lynsey, and her two dogs: Loki and Grover.

She is also survived by her parents, Frederick and Sigrid Bonnett of Cantonment, Florida, two sisters, Amy (Mike) Scheffler and Jacqueline Bonnett of Denver, Colorado, beloved nephews, and her in-laws, the Loran and Collette families. She is also survived by the numerous friends she loved like family. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Loran, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Her family asks that you remember Jean when you read a banned book, attend a trivia event, or when you see the color pink. The family also asks that any memorial donations be made to Yellowstone Public Radio.

Jean and I became fast friends in the summer of 1981, when we were both cast as small parts in the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. We were 15, and total theatre geeks. As kids in an adult production, we were thrilled by everything. We both had a crush on the impossibly handsome guy playing Mark Anthony in Julius Caeser, and were thrilled at him strutting around without his shirt in the dressing rooms! Jean was probably one of the first people I came out to, whoever remarked on her always creating a safe space for people was on the money. She even did it as a kid. I remember one night when we were hanging around after dark in the dorm building the cast used as their lodging. Somebody had a guitar, and Jean started singing, and had such a lovely voice. We all had a sing along, and I remember we sang Time in a Bottle that night, so it was great to hear it at the start of her memorial! She was a wonderful and loving person, and we were all blessed to have had her in our lives.
