Obituary
James 0. (Jim) Pickett of Billings, Montana, passed away on October 19, 2013. He was born in Pompeys Pillar, Montana, May 19, 1926, the son of Stanley and Elizabeth (Weinzetl). He attended school in Worden, Montana. Jim married Margaret Orlando on July 7, 1951 at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral in Billings. He was a Charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. Jim worked on numerous farms in the Pompeys Pillar area from his early youth until the fall of 1944 when he spent a few months working for an uncle in Bridger, Montana. In 1946 he came back to Bridger and spent another year there. He served in the Second World War in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1944 to 1946. He spent two years on a farm in Helena, Montana, moving to Billings in 1950 where he was employed as a carpenter for the next three years. Jim then worked, for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in December of 1988. After retiring from the Postal Service, he was employed by McDonalds for two years and then for Shopko for several years. He enjoyed his work and was very devoted to his wife and family. In his earlier years he enjoyed doing charitable work, especially with the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus and St. Pius X Catholic Church. Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret; son Mike (LaDeen) Pickett; two granddaughters: Jessica Pickett and Eva Pickett; brother, Bob Pickett; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Janie Pickett; his parents; three sisters: Mary Elizabeth Pickett, Betty Hurst, and Elma St. Clair, brother, John Pickett. Service: Visitation will be at Dahl Chapel Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Vigil services will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Friday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Rite of Committal in Mountview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the one's choice.

Margaret and family, Deepest sympathy to you. While we did not vist as much as some neighbors I enjoyed knowing Jim. Appreciated his assistance on shoveling my driveway and walk when I was at work. He will be missed. Sincerely, Laura Lunney

My condolences to the family. Mr. Pickett was the most mild mannered person I have ever known. It was obvious that he cherished his family. I attended 12 years of school with his son Mike. I'm not sure how it got started but somehow Mr. P. got the job of hauling a bunch of teenage boys home from Billings Central every day of our Freshman year. He would pick us up after he got off work in that old white Chevy pickup. We would all pile into the back and scream and carry on all the way out to the west end. He always had a big smile on his face and was so nice to us boys. I am honored to have known him.
