Obituary

Pat passed away peacefully on July 3, 2013 after a 5 year courageous battle with cancer. As she took her last breath, her friends Kristi and Jeryl were at her side, with additional friends and family all sharing time watching over their “sister”. As Pat passed, she painted the sky with a magnificent sunset on her way to heaven. She now rests in the arms of her Lord, Jesus. Pat chose her vocations with her heart: teaching school, downhill skiing, and mortgage banking to help people get a home. Pat filled her life to the brim and overflowing. She traveled to Europe, Mexico and the Florida Keys with her husband Wally. She loved Mexico so much she lived on Isla Mujeres for the winter months. The ocean beaches were her favorite place to walk, picking shells and searching for sea glass. Always an avid reader, the places she did not actually get to go, she visited through her books. She loved creating beautiful spaces; outside with her gardening and inside with her decorating. She made friends that became family everywhere she went. Pat lost her husband and friend Wally in 2006 after his battle with cancer. She would say of him “I had a great teacher. He showed me how to live and how to die with grace.” Pat leaves behind so many friends and family. Her sisters Melissa, Meg and Jinny and their families, her nephews Chris and Terry and their families, her island family Angela and Hugo, her sweetheart Jon, his family and “her” grandbabies, her Cum Christo family, and her sisters of the heart, Kristi, Kay, Lucy, Jeryl, Mary Ellen and their families. She made room in her heart for so many people, you know who you are. Dearest Pat, “Vaya Con Dios” Service: Vigil Services for Pat will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, with Memorial Mass noon Thursday, July 11, both at St. Patrick Co-Cathedral.

I had the pleasure of meeting Pat on our little island paradise of Isla Mujeres. She shared her story, we exchanged laughter a time or two on the beaches and enjoyed some conversational Spanish with other women on the island. I admired her strength and her courage in her continuing battle with cancer. Pat, you were determined and yet prepared for whatever the outcome. I learned a great deal from you strength and your courage. I will miss your visits to the island. R.I.P. and fight no more. Enjoy your reunion with your Wally now.

I was lucky enough to meet Pat on Isla three years ago. We became fast friends going to the beach, out to dinner, trips to Cancun. I have two rescue dogs. Pat fell in love with them and they her. She house sat for my dogs three wonderful times. Her attention to detail suited them perfectly. She cared for everyone with the same eye for detail and caring. One night after dinner on the Isla I had a reaction to eating peanuts. Pat rushed me home, gave me two shots, put me to bed, and called Dr. Salas all without blinking. Thank you for everything you did Pat. I will remember you always with love.
