Marjorie Stephens

Marjorie “Margy” (Shol) Stephens was born in Billings, MT on August 12, 1927 to Myrtle & William Shol. She joined her Savior, Jesus Christ, and the love of her life, Wally Stephens, on December 30, 2019. Margy was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, which later became American Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed and she and Wally were married on November 29, 1947. She was raised in a family of five girls and learned a lot about strength and sharing during that time. Margy was an accountant for Ray Lathom, Leroy Summers, and Ferro-Willet. She served on Altar Guild, taught Sunday School and was a greeter at church for many years. She was very caring, generous and active throughout her life enjoying Bridge, Pinochle and Sewing Club. She was a member of the Fireman's Auxiliary, along with tutoring fourth graders at Orchard and Poly Drive Elementary Schools for 25 years. She and Wally enjoyed golfing and being members of Laurel Golf Club. Even after Wally's passing and after retiring from golfing herself, she kept her golf clubs because they were the last gift Wally gave to her. On her 90th Birthday, she and her daughter, grand kids and great-grandkids all enjoyed a putting Golf Championship at Laurel Golf Club. Margy enjoyed jumping in the car and heading to different states visiting relatives; she finally decided to go out of her comfort zone and take a trial flight from Billings to Helena, as she wanted to fly to Alaska to see Lynda and her family. Friends and family were pleased to hear the "Eagle" had landed safely and survived the flight to Helena. Margy and her niece, Deb, then flew to Anchorage, AK to spend Deb's 13th Birthday with the Moore Family. Margy and Lynda also enjoyed many road trips together going to Boise, ID to visit her high school friend and to Missoula, MT to see dearest friends, Sharon and Marshall Kyle. They also made a trip up to Flathead Lake to celebrate her birthday and went to Big Fork Theatre seeing The Sound of Music; that particular year was the 50th Anniversary of the theatre. This was a very special memory for her because during the anniversary celebration they announced to have Margy Stephens and Lynda Moore to stand up as they were at the opening season 50 years earlier and everyone applauded. In all their travels Lynda only took one wrong turn on their trip to Casper, WY to meet Amanda, Fonso and Alessandro and ended up in Gillette, WY…end of story. Everyone enjoyed and appreciated the family history and stories of Margy growing up and the way she shared and kept these memories alive for all her family and friends. We will all continue to cherish and share those stories. Margy was preceded in death by her husband, Wally; parents, Myrtle and William Shol; sisters, Alice Norman and Marilyn Dillon; infant brother, Kenneth; in-laws, Thelma and Mark Stephens; brothers-in-law, Ron Kembel, Bob Dillon and Ray Leone; and nephew, Bill Norman. She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Moore; grandsons, Mitchell (Christy) Moore and Jordan Moore; granddaughter, Amanda (Alfonso) Romero; three great-grandchildren, Alessandro, Lyla Romero and Catherine Moore; sisters, Lois Leone and Delores Kembel; and many nieces and nephews. Margy was greatly loved and held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly the light of her life. We will always hold her in our hearts. Viewing will be on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 11 am until 5 pm at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at American Lutheran Church with burial in Mountview Cemetery.
