Fred Wanner

Fred Wanner, 82, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011 at Marquis Vintage Suites in Billings, Montana. He was born February 3, 1929, in Dickinson, ND, the son of Fred F. and Margaret (Reichert) Wanner, the oldest of four sons. His family lived near the Killdeer Mountains in North Dakota until he was nine, then moved south of Belfield to a farm. At 17 Fred moved to Dickinson to live with his grandmother. Fred entered the Army in 1950 and served in Korea. In 1951 he was married to Henrietta Hecker in Belfield. After his honorable discharge Fred, wife and son moved to Billings in 1959. They lived at 1803 Yellowstone, near St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he was a charter member. He drove truck and worked on the railroad docks. In 1960 Fred went to work for the state of Montana Gross Vehicle Weight Division, retiring thirty-two years later. Fred worked most of his life building what he needed out of wood. His favorite pastime was building models of battleships, fighter planes and jets, and remote controlled airplanes. He had built nearly 100 models. Fred is survived by his children, Marty Wanner of Billings, Dan Wanner of Great Falls, Carla (Aaron) Brunk of Havre; brothers Don (LaDonna) Wanner of Billings, Eugene Sperle of Salem, OR; 6 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Memorials: Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Church. Cemetery: Committal will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, in St. Josephs Cemetery in Dickinson, ND. Service: Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
