Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” Duane Dye was born October 1, 1934, to Sylvan F. and Helen M. Dye in Beach, ND. He was the oldest of 6 children: 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Jerry's formidable years were spent in Glendive MT, mostly roaming the hills in the back yard on East Towne St. Jerry was stricken with polio at a young age and battled the effects for the rest of his life.
He attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Washington Jr. High, and Graduated from Dawson County High in the Class of 1955. He later attended Dawson Community College.
Jerry met and married Carol Ingrid Thompson and the couple have been together ever since. Just a few months shy of being married 60 years.
Jerry moved to Billings to work for Americana Homes drawing house plans for Billings residents. He started Custom Design drafting plans for hundreds of homes and numerous buildings and a few churches in Billings and the surrounding area. Later in life he worked for the BLM only to retire to what he enjoyed most, helping design peoples' homes, and drawing plans.
Jerry involved himself in Little League Baseball when his sons became old enough to play. He was the president of Lissa Little League and was instrumental in starting Senior League and Big-League Chapters under the Little League Baseball family in Billings. Jerry enjoyed announcing American Legion Baseball Games at Cobb (now Dehler) Field in Billings in the mid 80's.
He was active in Messiah Lutheran Church for many years. He had a knack for brightening friends and family events with hand drawn caricature drawings and cards. His later years saw him honing his stamp collecting skills, enjoying outdoor concerts, and dining out with friends and relatives.
He treasured his wife, sons, grandchildren, and family.
He passed peacefully into God's Hands the evening of April 3, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and one brother.
Jerry is survived by his wife Carol; sons Michael (Marci), David (Pamela Mills); grandchildren Eric (Ginger), Anna, Noah; brothers Robert, Richard; Aunt Betty; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A service will be held for Jerry at Dahl Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, April 25th, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to St. John's United or any charity of your choice.
