Obituary
Alice “Allie” Marie Tu Arthur, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026. She was born on October 15, 1939, in Billings, MT, the eldest daughter of Olaf A. Tu and Ada Idland Tu. As a newborn, she was so tiny she could fit inside a shoebox—a family story lovingly retold throughout her life.
Alice graduated from Circle High School in 1957. During her school years, she was active and spirited, serving as a cheerleader and participating in the PEP Club all four years. Her classmates honored her as Homecoming Queen her senior year. After high school, she earned her Beautician License and worked alongside her sister Bonnie in Billings, beginning a lifelong habit of caring for others with quiet, steady devotion.
On October 21, 1978, Alice married James “Diamond Jim” Edward Arthur. Their life together was filled with adventure as they traveled across the western United States on oil rigs, with work also taking them abroad to Singapore and New Zealand. They eventually settled in Belle Creek, MT, and Alice later made her home in Laurel, MT.
Alice found joy in simple, meaningful pursuits—knitting, sewing, and baking treats to share with others. She loved telling stories from her travels, and once she began, you knew you were in for a detailed and memorable conversation. She treasured her photo albums, carefully organizing the many moments she captured. She was also especially proud of her Ford Fairlane. Above all, Alice will be remembered for her gentle voice, her kind and generous heart, and her unwavering devotion to her husband Jim.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 40 years; her sisters, Judy Lee Tu Freitag and Bonnie Tu Hess; her brother, Obert Tu; brother-in-law, Gerald C. Freitag, brother-in-law LeRoy Hess and sister-in-law Sharon Tu. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel, MT.
